In contrast to the well documented travails of the casual dining sector, wet-led operations have fuelled something of a resurgence in the British Pub, helping to halt the hitherto decline in site numbers.
Our keynote speaker, Simon Stenning from MCA Insight, outlined and explained the key trends in the pub sector, focusing on urban bars and delving into the world of the micro-brewery.
We also heard from Paul Mitchell, Head of Property for The Alchemist Bars & Restaurants, who moved into the leisure industry in 2007 as a Project Manager for TRG on leisure & concessions new sites. He headed up the new build and refurbishment roll out programme at its height, when TRG were rolling out 30-40 sites a year and undertaking 80-100 refurbs a year. He moved to Living Ventures as their Head of Property in January 2017, before making the jump to The Alchemist officially in June of this year. He oversees the acquisition process as well as the design and build programme.
